There are many worthwhile quick inspiring ideas in Simplify Your Life; 100 Ways to Slow Down and Enjoy the Things That Really Matter ,by Elaine St. James.
There are the obvious reminders.. to stop and smell the roses, drop call waiting, trust your intuition, learn to meditate...but as a pet person, I loved these thoughts in her chapter Pets Simplified.
" Take the time to train your dog , This will simplify your life and make your household and family environment more peaceful." Teaching your dog the basic commands will benefit your family for many years to come. And here is another reminder , " A well trained dog will bring joy to your life". I could not have said it any better. James details how dogs ensure that we too, get our daily exercise and also how dogs bring us in closer touch with nature. Idle time can be the gift we rarely give ourselves.
A client recently shared with me how her rose bushes are better trimmed with the introduction of a new puppy to their household. She is spending so much more time in her backyard, allowing herself " idle" time playing and caring for the puppy, that she now is intimately familiar with the family of quail that occupy her backyard,. She is not only orchestrating lawn games with the kids and puppy, but she is studying the cloud patterns and darkening shades of the sky that come with the monsoons this time of year.
Pets enrich our lives. They also can bring us unexpected moments of peace and take us back to basics .
Enjoy. Until Next time, Tailwags!
